New Music – The Lucky Wonders’ “Thirteen O’Clock”

Haven’t heard of the Lucky Wonders yet? Well, you soon will as they slowly take Australia over one set at a time. The outfit consists of Byron Bay-based Singer/Songwriters Emma and Jessie, who along with other band members Brent and Anastassijah put together a very precious, naïve, sweet sound.

The genre for Thirteen O’Clock is hard to pick – it mixes rootsy styles with catchy pop melodies, which work amazingly well to produce an easy-listening, but deep and meaningful soundtrack.

There is a comfortable balance between hard-hitting topics and sweet, light songs to warm the heart on this album. It is certainly one to take you on a journey of ups and downs.

Emma on the release: “This album covers a lot of ground, the individual tracks read like chapters in a bigger story, and in the end you’re left with something real but optimistic. Despite our contrasting life experiences we create something special when we write together. It’s like, yeah, life can hurt sometimes, but if you stay open, there is a chance at something bigger and fuller.”

Unfortunately, this massive tour (of 40+ dates) that the band is currently on is missing the vital key of a Brisbane show (or two!)… but we have our fingers crossed they will be making their way to us soon! Until then, get yourselves to their myspace and have a listen!
