AMP Entries – Open Now!!!
The 6th Australian Music Prize (The Amp) returns in 2010 to encourage, reward and acknowledge excellence in Australian Music.
With a $30,000 cash prize courtesy of PPCA up for grabs, The Amp is now calling for submissions from all Australian recording artists across every music genre to submit original album-length works released in 2010.
THE 6TH AUSTRALIAN MUSIC PRIZE NOW OPEN FOR ENTRIES
Last year’s winner of the Australian Music Prize was Lisa Mitchell for her seminal album ‘Wonder’. Since winning the prize, Lisa Mitchell has made her mark in the UK and USA and is now ensconced in writing new material for her follow up album. Her album has gone platinum in Australia.

“I have dreams of one day building a beautiful studio space to create in – so right now the money from The Amp is gathering dust and interest until I find the right space. Since the prize I’ve been touring in Europe and Australia and writing and recording for a second album of some description,” says Mitchell of the win.
A special mention should also be made to Oh Mercy, who picked up the Red Bull prize last year, which they used partially to fund their stint at SXSW in the US, as well as work on songwriting while abroad. We certainly look forward to seeing new and exciting things from these guys! Check out the AMP footage of their set here and here.
Now in its sixth year, The Amp has established itself as a renowned prize for originality and creativity. With a judging panel made up of music media, artists and retailers, The Australian Music Prize rewards excellence based on the merits of the album alone – not sales, radio play or media coverage. Appealing to a broad spectrum of entrants across all genres of music, The Amp draws comparisons
to the UK Mercury Music Prize for its integrity and passion for local music.
The nine Shortlisted Artists for The Amp share in media exposure and gain credibility for this peer-voted prize. The winner of The Amp takes home the $30,000 prize money.
To enter, artists just need to submit their album via www.australianmusicprize.com from September 13th, 2010 until October 29th, 2010. The fee is $95 per album, with a discount for early birds who enter before 6pm on October 1st, 2010.
