New Music: Galleon’s In Stereo
Galleon is not a new household name… or at least they shouldn’t be. Having had a string of great support gigs, such as Eskimo Joe, the Whitlams and British India, as well as their own sold out shows, these guys are well-versed in the solid gig and are one band to watch over the summer.
With a sounds so similar to the short-lived wonder, Motorace, it’s no surprise at all that Galleon’s recent single, In Stereo was in fact produced by the Motorace frontman (and long-time highschool music crush of mine), Patch Robertson. There’s a nostalgic element especially present in the second track on the EP, All My Love, which will have any Motorace fan contemplating what could have been should they have stuck it out.
Luckily it seems, something very good has come out of their demise = Galleon. In Stereo is a hard-hitting track that is bound to get movers and shakers on the dancefloor. Discussing the choice of the “artist” lifestyle over the 9-5 that most of us are forced into, the track crescendos into a dramatic climax before fading away, into the much lighter waltz-feel of All My Love. A perfectly-matched pair of tracks for the one release.
This is just a small taste of what is to come, as was their debut single Kamikaze. I have a feeling Galleon’s debut album (to be released later this year) is going to be a cracker.
This time ‘round on their east coast tour, Brisbane is missing out on a gig, but hopefully it won’t be too long until they return to QLD. In the meantime, check them out here to prepare yourself for when they do arrive!
