New Music: The Paper Scissors’ Lung Sum

For a band that is really just starting out, The Paper Scissors are doing a great job at smashing it. Having just released their new single Lung Sum (following the well-received We Don’t Walk), and with a new LP In Loving Memory on the way very shortly, these guys have been very, very, very busy. Oh – and did I mention that they’re in the midst of a national tour??? Phew.

The single Lung Sum itself is hard to pinpoint – it is comfortably safe in a rock genre sense, but there is something ever-so-slightly different in vocalist Jai Pyne’s voice that makes the listener feel a little tug on the heart strings. The entire song follows a forbidden path – the drums running us deeper into the woods, while the interaction between the bass and guitar don’t allow us to ever stop dancing. After a couple of listens, this track is the kind to drive you mental as it will be forever stuck in your head. But give it a listen, because it’s worth it.

If you didn’t catch The Paper Scissors when they hit our town for Lambda last week, have no fear, for they are certain to be back soon rockin’ the Brisbane stage shortly. After all, these guys have just started something bound to be big.
