New Music: Timothy Nelson and the Infidels

Timothy Nelson (nb. not Brisbane’s Tim Nelson) is what Tim Freedman (not Tim Nelson, nor Timothy Nelson) would be like had he grown up in a hippy commune. With a sweet, innocent, folky, country-twang, his newest release You Don’t Know What You’re Waiting For is a delightfully long and winding story that twists and bends from each verse into the chorus.
Folk singers like Nelson come few and far between – the music itself is simple, light and flowing, with just the basics of guitars, drum and bass to accompany his beautiful, honest voice. Every now and then you catch a glimpse of his true personality in his tone, a slight bitterness and melancholy that only comes from someone telling a tale that is very close to the heart.
The b-side to the single is a track called Sleeping Alone, also with a deep, melancholic tone that would go well alone on a winter’s eve with a big glass of red wine. This track is different, however, as it really allows the listener to experience a rawer, stripped back sound from Nelson, with really only an acoustic guitar to keep the song together. Both tracks are available up on their myspace and should be listened to readily.
