New Music: the Jezabels’ Endless Summer
Now-household names, The Jezabels have been working hard since their debut EP release (The Man is Dead) in 2009. Though it’s not long now till their anticipated first LP,Prisoner (due in stores September 16), they’ve given us a taste of what is to come with the new singleEndless Summer.
We know the Sydney four-piece best for their dreamy, summer-longing tracks, and the aptly-titledEndless Summer is no different. Here’s what vocalist Hayley Mary had to say about their latest release: “Endless Summer, despite its title, is essentially a winter song, an expression of a dream or desire for something that is the furthest thing from the dreamer’s reality. While it is a song about loss, there is also happiness there, in the hope that the light of summer can always live on throughout the winter, in ones mind”.
This single very much follows in line with their previous singles – Mary’s vocals have that captivating quality to them, and are really beautiful against the heavy drum beat. I got the chance to see this track performed live during their set at Splendour in the Grass, and it’s bound to be a future festival hit. The Jezabels always seem to please with their big, dramatic songs, andEndless Summer fits right in to their stellar repertoire.
