A night of torrential rain could not keep the masses away from the Eatons Hill Hotel to see the renowned My Chemical Romance. With a theatre style layout and ornate ceiling, acoustics are second to none, nomatter where you stand at this venue hidden gem in the suburbs.

To warm up the crowd, Closure in Moscow came out swinging with a blistering set. Amping up the audience with tracks off their album First Temple, including favourites such as Sweet#Hart and ReindeerAge. Another inclusion was also their new track The Impeccable Beast which proved a crowd pleaser.

My Chemical Romance took to the stage to a chorus of screaming so high pitch I thought I was at aTaylor Swift concert! This came as a surprise as the audience was an eccentric mix of tough guys, newyounger fans and a generally normal looking group of people. Opening with Na Na Na, the punters were on an instant high with frontman Gerard Way owning the stage. The iconic blonde hair was not the only thing lighting up the stage, with tracks like Planetary, Mama and Cemetery Drive keeping the rhythm.A healthy mosh was formed for a number of their heavier tracks, proving too much for a few who werepulled out of the front row, looking a little dishevelled. Summertime, a much more melodic tune was a welcome change of pace for them!

Other favourites from the New Jersey four piece included Destroya, Black Parade and Teenagers. Allround, the boys from My Chemical Romance put on a fast paced, in your face and impressive rock show. There was something for everyone, with a great mix of new, old and in between songs. As a ‘sometimes’ fan of the band who hasn’t seen them previously, I was impressed and wouldn’t think twice about going back for more next time they’re in town.

You can catch them at the remaining Big Day Out shows.
