Red Deer Festival 2013: The Lineup
Having cemented its place as one of Brisbane’s best loved grassroots events, the fourth Red Deer Music & Arts Festival officially launched ticket sales today together with the release of its hotly anticipated 2013 lineup, raising the bar with another stellar cast of Australian music talent.
Hitting the Red Deer stage for one very special hometown show is Australia’s acclaimed indie-rock trio, The Grates, who will bring headline thrills with tunes from their epic mantle of records which have earned the band two ARIA Top Ten Album awards, the J Award (2006/2008) and The Amp.
With numerous global festivals under their belt, The Grates’ enigmatic front-woman Patience Hodgson and her fearless partner in crime, John Patterson, said they were looking forward to heading home to lead the Red Deer stampede at “Brisbane’s ultimate grassroots music event”.
Making magic at the base of the D’Aguilar Range, Red Deer will once again welcome a herd of acclaimed Australian musicians including ex-Beautiful Girls frontman Mat. McHugh & the Seperatista Soundsystem, Melbourne-born four-piece indie-rock set Kingswood (winners of the 2012 Triple J Unearthed Splendour in the Grass’ competition), and Sydney hip-hop artist Chance Waters, best known for popular tracks Young & Dumb and Maybe Tomorrow.
Other acts to grace the bill include Bobby Alu, Pidgeon DJs, The Kite String Tangle, Triple J’s Sarah Howells DJ, Bec Laughton, The Lyrical and Sneaky Picnic.
Bringing music to the masses for four years running, the vibrant grassroots event is heralded by fans as a “must do” local festival, continuing to delight audiences with a top notch lineup of Australian musicians which last year included iconic indie-rock headline act Regurgitator and folk angel Clare Bowditch.
Festival Director Julian De Maria said with tickets selling out in 2012, Red Deer had again expanded in size to cater for the intensifying public thirst for smaller-scale, premium quality alternatives to Australia’s major festivals characterised by treacherous crowds, massive lines and inflated prices.
Perched on the lush site of his parent’s ex-deer farm, De Maria says he and his team were committed to upholding the event’s honesty and integrity.
“We strive to deliver a fresh, affordable and relaxed homegrown experience, memorable for its good vibes, pristine setting and uplifting sense of community,” he said.
